Creating the ARTful Journal Sat./Sun. Aug 25 & 26, 2018 11a - 4p 1423 Epperly Mill Rd. SW; Floyd VA 24091
Why journal? I use my art journals to record ideas, sketches, lists, quotes, test color/supplies, techniques, design, and write. However, journals are diverse in purpose; daily thoughts, quotes, lists, recipes, travel, project documenting, scrapbooking, or just plain doodling! Create separate journals for different reasons- each centered around a theme (i.e. hearts, Picasso, F. Kahlo, a favorite book) Or just combine everything! Over the years, I’ve developed a love affair with my journals and the journaling process itself. Because it’s BIG FUN! After you create your first, you’ll be able to make more on your own using the provided handouts.
This workshop teaches journal construction—but also discovery - experimenting with new mediums – what works best for surface design, or just preference. Experiment with paints; crayons, markers, rubber stamps, stencils, pencils, collage; and include ephemera and magazine images. You will learn the art mediums you like and want to explore; and what kind of journal works best for you! What to expect: Day 1 - Create the covers and spine, attach end papers, fold signatures; select beads/buttons. Covers dry overnight. Day 2 – Punch holes in spine; sew signatures into journal; attach beads & closure; start playing and writing in your newly created journal! It’s now your job to “take the white off”! You will have oodles of supplies to tempt your creativity! The instructor will demo throughout the day to attack the blank page; and also provide writing prompts and resources to tickle your muse! Cost: $135 (All supplies included) Practicalities: Everyone has their own table to work on, with plenty of room to spread out. You may want to bring a bag lunch for our break.
